NPSL Basics

NPSL indoor soccer (or arena soccer) is a fast-paced game played on a turf field enclosed by walls, typically featuring 6 players per side (5 field players + 1 goalkeeper). Key rules include four 15-minute quarters, unlimited substitutions, no offsides, and the use of walls to keep the ball in play.

Core Rules and Gameplay

Team Size: Typically 6v6 (5 field players, 1 goalkeeper).
Match Duration: Games are generally played in four 15-minute quarters, with the clock often stopping for whistles (60 minutes total).
Walls: The walls are in play. If the ball hits the ceiling or exits the arena, a restart is given.
Substitutions: Unlimited, "on-the-fly" substitutions are allowed.
Offsides: There is no offside rule.
Three-Line Rule: The ball cannot be kicked on a fly over three lines (two defensive lines and the center line) without touching the ground or another player first.
